Dubai: Jumeirah Group’s  luxury Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai is adding a deck, according to a company statement on Wednesday.

The private luxury North Deck will cover 10,000 square metres and will fan 100 metres out into the Arabian Gulf.

It will fan 100 metres out into the Arabian Gulf and accommodate 32 cabanas, 400 sun loungers, one freshwater pool measuring 612 square metres, one saltwater pool measuring 828 square metres, one restaurant and a bar.

It is due to open in the second quarter of 2016.

The deck has been developed by marine construction experts ADMARES at a shipyard in Finland that specialisies in the construction of cruise ships and yachts.

It is due to open in the second quarter of this year.

Made from steel and weighing around 5,000 tonnes, the North Deck left Finland on 9th January 2016 and is currently being transported to Dubai by sea.

It is expected to arrive in Dubai in the middle of February. The six sections of the deck will then be lifted by crane and lowered onto a grid of 90 steel piles, stretching from the hotel out into the Arabian Gulf.

The hotel assured that the construction and steel pile installation will cause minimal impact to the marine environment.

"In fact, it has been designed to provide shade for local fish and to attract undersea ecosystems that are known to cluster around steel piles," the company said in a statement.
