HP Inc launched its wireless pocket-sized photo printer — Sprocket — that can print straight from a smartphone or tablet.

The printer can be connected to your phone via Bluetooth and download the free Sprocket app (available on iOS and Android). It can print photos from the phone or from social media accounts.

The power button is the only control on the printer and there is a micro USB port for charging.

“Most people print at home than actually we predicted. Traditionally, people used to print from their PCs but now that is happening from the mobile space. Sprocket is for printing on the go and not for printing after reaching home, sharing memories as they happen,” said Stephane Rogier, head of printing business at HP.

Sprocket is priced at Dh499 and the special paper of 5 x 7cm is for Dh79 for a pack of 50 sheets.

The company which launched the world’s smallest all-in-one printer last Gitex is bringing in with new colours this year for Dh255 and two other all-in-one deskjet printers for Dh429 and Dh389.

Rogier said that the Sprocket does not have a cartridge and so no ink. It uses a special paper known as Zink special photo paper. The photo that comes out is instantly dry and smudge proof. The paper is also a sticker and can be stuck on the wall or fridge.

The editing tools of the app can slap funky stickers all over your pictures before printing, as well as captions. It has a built-in rechargeable battery.
