HMD Global, the company that owns the rights to sell Nokia-branded phones and tablets for 10 years, has signed an exclusive partnership with imaging brand Zeiss to push the boundaries of mobile photography.

Nokia’s partnership with Zeiss stretches back to 2005 with models such as Nokia N90 and Nokia N95 — the first phone to come with a 5MP rear camera and the Nokia 808 PureView — which came with a whopping 41MP rear camera.

“We are in the middle of launching next wave of Nokia phones. We and the Zeiss team will be looking holistically from the hardware, software and optics segment of the imaging element,” said Florian Seiche, President at HMD Global.

He said that the long- term agreement builds on the shared history and expertise between Zeiss and Nokia smartphones.

HMD has launched the iconic 3310 and Nokia 3 in the UAE market while Nokia 5 will be rolled out soon and Nokia 6 in August.

“We are receiving a positive response from customers, channels and partners despite it is being rolled out globally. We are in the middle of launching next wave of Nokia phones. We and the Zeiss team will be looking holistically from the hardware, software and optics segment of the imaging element,” he said.

He said the unique proposition and the strategic partnerships with trade partners such as Foxconn, Nokia and Google are the key differentiators.

Andreas Back, Head of Brand Management and Head of Marketing Consumer Optics at Zeiss, said that more than 100 million Nokia phones were jointly developed by the two partners.

He said that the collaboration will again enhance consumers’ holistic imaging experience based on excellence and innovation. “Our partnership is built on a solid foundation. Together, we look forward to an exciting journey into the future of sophisticated smartphone imaging,” he said.

If rumours are true, the next Nokia 9 model, to be released by end of August, is expected to come with 22MP dual Zeiss lens and has been spotted on Geekbench benchmarking site for the second time.
