Dubai: Dell is showcasing the world’s smallest 13-inch two-in-one laptop with virtually borderless display.

It is powered by seventh-generation Intel i5 and i7 processors.

The chassis is thinner than the one on the XPS-13 clamshell, which makes it easier to use as a tablet. It weighs 1.24 kilos. It also allows Dell to cram a 13-inch, full-HD screen into a design that’s as compact as an 11-inch laptop.

The display can swing around 360 degrees and can be flipped around in a “tent” mode to watch videos.

Intel claims the seventh-generation processor is up to 12 per cent faster and up to 19 per cent increased internet performance than the sixth-generation processor.

The machine is made of machined aluminium and carbon fibre with Corning Gorilla Glass display.

Dell is also introducing its new Dynamic Power Mode technology on a laptop, which scales up the clock speed when you need more performance. The 2GHz Machine can turbo boost up to 3.2GHz speed.

The new device measures just 0.32 to 0.54 inches thick, compared to 0.33 to 0.6 inches for the more traditional XPS-13.

Connect other devices

To make this device so thin and light, Dell had to make some trade-offs. It does not have a full-size USB port or an SD card slot but a USB Type-C, a microSD card slot and a Thunderbolt 3 port. Dell is also including a USB-C to USB-A adapter, which will make it easier to connect phones and other devices.

Dell is also selling separately an Active Pen to use it with this device to take full advantage of the inking features in Windows 10 and the ability to sketch and draw. It provides 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity.

The XPS-13 has no fans. Instead, it relies on passive cooling and a very efficient processor to manage heat. It comes in Silver, Rose Gold and Yellow Gold colours and prices start from Dh6,499 for the i5 machine with 8GB and 256GB solid state drive.
