Dubai: Cabsat 2018, an event for broadcast, satellite, and entertainment content, kicked off on Sunday, with a discussion of the latest technology in those sectors and monetisation opportunities in the regional market.

The three-day event taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre is expected to bring together over 13,000 media industry professionals, and will also highlight disruptive innovation, creation, and distribution of content.

“With a burgeoning regional TC market set to reach $15 billion (Dh55 billion) by 2021, as well as host of new solutions for content creation and delivery to be discussed at the content congress, there’s a wealth of content readily available for individuals and organisations attending this year,” said Trixie LohMirmand, senior vice president of events management at DWTC.

Speaking at this year’s event will be over 60 people, representing companies that include Facebook, BBC, WWE, Rotana Media Group, Turner Broadcasting, and Discovery Networks, among others.

Arabic content

The event will also highlight the growth of Arabic content and its role in the region. Speakers on the topic will include top executives from Cartoon Network Studios Arabia, Arab Format Lab, and CBC Egypt.

“Arabic content is in increasingly high demand, and we have seen more and more exhibitors attend who not only take part in the localisation of international content, but are branching out into the creation of premium Arabic content. This is a crucial step in delivering the types of shows that regional audiences respond to and resonate with,” LohMirmand said.

Cabsat was opened on Sunday by Shaikh Hasher Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, director general of Dubai’s Department of Information.
