Dubai: The United States, host of a number of World Expos throughout history, formally announced its confirmation of intent to participate in Expo 2020 Dubai, during a bilateral meeting with the UAE on Thursday.
The US has been a close friend of the UAE since the Middle East country’s foundation in 1971 and believes that the relationship, which has grown deeper and deeper over the past 46 years, is a living example of what can be achieved by the Expo theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” a statement from the organisers said.
The countries work together in many fields, from education to health and technology, while the UAE also has been the largest US export market in the Middle East for eight consecutive years, with UAE investments in the US helping to support hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Now, the two countries will be collaborating at Expo 2020 Dubai after a bilateral meeting between Reem Al Hashemi, a senior Expo official and UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, and the US Ambassador in the UAE, Barbara Leaf.
Of the meeting, Al Hashemi said: “The UAE and the US share a distinguished history, which is reflected in the many cooperation agreements that have been signed between our two countries as well as the work we have done together to encourage innovation and sustainability — key themes of Expo 2020 Dubai.
