Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday visited Emirates Flight Catering and toured its state-of-the-art facilities.
Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, accompanied him.
Shaikh Mohammad emphasised that assisting sectors played a pivotal role in the qualitative shift achieved by Emirates airline in Dubai.
He pointed out that the aforementioned sectors formed a comprehensive system that effectively contributed to all accomplished achievements, which complements Dubai’s strategy to be a role model for developing economic sectors.
Shaikh Mohammad inspected the work flow in Emirates Flight Catering, which also serves 120 international airlines. He also visited the Central Commissary Unit (CCU) and Skybake that were inaugurated last year to keep abreast with local and global demand in airline catering.
Every day, the CCU processes 15 tonnes of vegetables, 9 tonnes of fruits and 30 tonnes of meat. A line for producing pasta and ice cream was recently introduced. Skybake uses around 3,300 tonnes of flour annually to produce 45,000 pastries every day.
Shaikh Mohammad inspected the automated overhead cart transport system (monorail), which carries over 29,142 meal carts over a distance of 2.55km. Through the network, the carts are also moved to the cleaning section where more than three million pieces of cutlery and plates are washed every day.
Shaikh Mohammad expressed his pride and happiness with the technological development he witnessed during the visit to the facility, which produces around 220,000 meals on a daily basis for Emirates airline, including the business and first class lounges.
Shaikh Mohammad expressed his satisfaction with the high food quality and safety standards, massive operational efforts and the experience accrued throughout the years, which reflect the outstanding level of services rendered by the company.
