Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has allocated Dh10.5 billion towards financing 26 development projects in Bahrain including housing, energy, transportation and health-care sectors since its inception in 1974, according to a statement on Sunday.

The Fund also said the projects are being implemented as part of the Dh9.19 billion ($2.5 billion) grant provided by the UAE to Bahrain within the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) development programme for Bahrain.

“ADFD and the Government of Bahrain enjoy long-standing and strong historic ties that date back over four decades. We have worked together to achieve the kingdom’s sustainable development goals across a broad spectrum of economic sectors,” said Mohammad Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

He further added: “The GCC development programme for Bahrain, commissioned in 2013, is a sustainable model of development support extended by the UAE to Bahrain managed by ADFD.”

A technical delegation recently visited Bahrain to review the progress of the development projects financed by the Fund in the country. It confirmed that some projects are currently more than 90 per cent complete, while work is in full swing to deliver the remaining projects on schedule.

The projects include housing Units in the Northern City, Development of a water supply network, reclamation works-Eastern Sitra housing project, Bahrain International Airport Expansion and Development of a water supply network, among others.
