Abu Dhabi – The Salama Bint Hamdan Foundation unveiled the layout for a 125,000-square-metre park that will be built in Abu Dhabi with an expected opening date in early 2017.

The foundation unveiled the design on Tuesday at Cityscape Abu Dhabi, which is currently held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).

Construction of Al Fayah Park, which is located on Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street, will commence by early 2015.

The park is designed by London-based Thomas Heatherwick whose studio is behind world-class projects including the Olympic Cauldron for the London 2012 Olympics Games.

Iman Khouri, communications manager at the Foundation, said the park will attract residents and international visitors with its design, and is set to put Abu Dhabi on the global map for cities with innovative public space.

Al Fayah Park will feature play areas for children, exercise paths, and an organic fruit and vegetable garden, which will supply the cafés and restaurants in the park.

The park will also have a public library, picnic area, mosque, outdoor cinema, and arenas to host live performances and events.
