Dubai: Don’t have a maid to vacuum and mop your floors, don’t worry. Have an iRobot and get the things done freely.

The Bedford-based company, iRobot Corp, has launched two robots out of 18 in the UAE, for a range of floor-cleaning methods using iAdapt technology.

“With the accelerated pace of urban life and the gradual expansion of people’s living space, more and more households are willing to purchase advanced intelligent products. Such a complete solution empowers the consumer to decide how to spend their time doing activities they want to do because they can spend less time doing dull and time-consuming housework,” Marc Dinee, vice-president of Sales and Marketing, EMEA, Home Robots business unit at iRobot, told Gulf News.

He said iRobot will launch six robots in the UAE depending on market needs.

With more than 10 million home robots sold worldwide since 1990, the company expects 20 per cent increase in sales this year. In 2013, the company sold one million robots.

“We define ourselves as problem solvers and solve the daily problems using robotic methods. Our robots are task related,” he said.

Roomba 800 is a vacuum cleaning robot while the Scooba 450 is for hard floor-scrubbing that tackles stuck-on mess.

He said the robots are ideal for the UAE households due to the tiles and hardwood floors.

“Families can spend more time together while the robots are cleaning the house autonomously. It has 16 sensors — audio and video — on the robot to sense and hear the dirt,” Dinee said.

The machine, when done its task, goes back to the docking station automatically to charge itself. On full charge, the battery can last 45 minutes of hard work. The robot can be timed like how many times users want to clean the floor and which rooms first.

The US contributes 30 per cent to iRobot sales and the rest from across the world.

Roomba 880 is priced at Dh3,888 and Scooba 450 is priced at Dh3,199 and will be available in July.
