Abu Dhabi: Aldar Properties, the Abu Dhabi-based real estate developer, announced it has awarded Dh440 million worth of contracts to National Projects and Construction for two of Aldar’s projects.

The contracts will go to construction on Nareel Island, a master-planned island community, and on Al Merief, a project in Khalifa City.

Work on both developments will be carried out over a 16-month period, having already commenced on July 14. The work covers infrastructure, utilities and public areas, and marina works for Nareel Island.

In a statement on Wednesday, Aldar said it is on track for the completion of both developments in 2017.

Nareel Island comprises 148 villa plots, along with a lagoon, marina, clubhouse, parks, and private beaches. Aldar awarded the earthworks and marine works tender packages in October 2015 and is currently making progress on construction work.

Meanwhile, Al Merief comprises 283 land plots, with the development set to have parks, mosques, an Aldar Academies-operated school, and retail centre. All concept and preliminary designs as well as the detailed design phase were completed in 2015.
