Dubai: Nakheel has confirmed the awarding of three contracts — with a combined value of around Dh563 million — for projects at two of its communities, Al Furjan and International City.

Two of the contracts, worth nearly Dh526 million, are for the construction of 401 villas and terraced houses at the Al Furjan development.

The first covers 249 homes and is valued at Dh310.6 million, and will be overseen by Ginco General Contracting.

The other went to United Engineering Construction for 152 homes, and has a contract value of Dh215.4. As per the terms of both contracts, construction is due for completion in 18 months.

Nakheel also awarded a contract for Dh36.8 million to Metac General Contracting Co to build a new retail centre at International City. Construction of the 79,000 square foot shopping and dining facility is scheduled to take 12 months.

The community centre, where two-thirds of the available leasing space is already booked, will have 24 shops and six restaurants and coffee shops. The facility will serve residents in International City as well as people living at the nearby Warsan Village, Nakheel’s own gated community of 940 townhouses.
