Dubai: Passengers transferring between Dubai’s two airports until July 20 will be able to use free shuttle services provided by Dubai Airports.

The services, which started on April 24, will depart each airport every 30 minutes and can handle 49 passengers including luggage.

Passengers at Dubai International can board the shuttle at Terminal 3 Departures at Entrance 3, Terminal 2 at the curb between Departures and Arrivals and Terminal 1 Departures at Area F.

The service will collect passengers outside Departures at Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central (DWC).

The buses will be clearly marked with ‘DA’ logos, according to Dubai Airports.

Dubai International is undergoing scheduled runway maintenance work from Thursday until July 20. The work, which will close one runway at a time, is set to cut capacity at the airport. Several airlines have opted to switch either part or all of their operations to Al Maktoum International during the 80-day period.

Passengers will not be required to show any proof of travel to board the shuttle bus, a Dubai Airports spokesperson confirmed.

However, passengers will have to obtain the appropriate UAE visa if they are moving between the two airports. Unlike other countries, the UAE does not require transit visas as long as they stay within the one airport but because passengers will have to enter and exit each airport, including passing through immigration checks, a visa is required.

Dubai’s two airports are roughly 65 kilometres apart — a journey that takes almost an hour.

Al Maktoum is already used by a number of airlines including Gulf Air and Qatar Airways.

Low-cost Filipino airline Cebu Pacific will reportedly temporarily shift its operations to Sharjah International and has said it will ‘accommodate’ passengers that require transfers to Dubai International or Al Maktoum International.
