Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inspected on Thursday the new Concourse D at the Dubai International Airport.

The Dh4-billion facility is the world’s first airport facility to get the International Sustainability Certification for green buildings.

He toured different facilities of the 150,000-square metre Concourse D including the departure hall, which features a 13,000 duty-free shopping area.

He also inspected counters of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs.

Shaikh Mohammad checked the arrivals and first-class halls for some international airlines and expressed his satisfaction at the confidence of passengers in the services provided by the airport.

He was briefed by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, on the strategic plan set by the Dubai Airports until 2020.

Shaikh Ahmad pointed out that the Concourse D’s capacity is 18 million passengers per year, with spacious passenger halls, one aircraft from F type and four type E12 aircraft, among others.

The Ruler of Dubai commended efforts made by Dubai International Airport team led by Shaikh Ahmad.

Shaikh Mohammad was accompanied by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation as well as other Shaikhs and senior officials.
