Dubai: Lufthansa flights to the UAE will be cancelled until Friday, a spokesperson for the airline has confirmed.

The spokesperson said that daily Frankfurt-Dubai and Munich-Dubai flights will restart on Saturday.

Lufthansa pilots went on strike on Wednesday over a wage and pension scheme dispute. Lufthansa is looking to increase its retirement age to 60. Pilots want to keep it at 55.

Affected passengers are able to continue their travel as long as there are available seats, with the airline rebooking some passengers on other Lufthansa Group carriers such as Austrian Airlines.

Passengers can alternatively defer their travel or seek a refund on their ticket. The spokesperson also said Lufthansa will book its passengers on other airlines if necessary.

Lufthansa has been impacted by a spate of strikes. Last week, a strike called by trade union Verdi impacted flights across Germany as non-Lufthansa airport staff disputed salaries.

The Lufthansa spokesperson said the airline is hoping to reach an agreement with its pilots soon and said that the pilots have agreed not to hinder holiday travel later this month.
