Dubai: A new advisory has been issued for UAE residents flying out of Abu Dhabi airport, as millions of passengers are expected to pass through the terminals during the peak summer travel period.

Etihad Airways is preparing for a busy travel season over the next two months, when around 3.3 million travellers are expected to fly with the UAE-based carrier across its network.

The airline said that as people make plans for trips home or on holiday in time for Eid, school break and summer, the period between June 22 and August 24 will be a “particularly busy time” at the UAE capital’s airport.

“To make sure that our guests enjoy a convenient travel experience during this busy period, we have a number of travel tips and reminders to save time,” the airline said in a statement.

Passengers are advised to make use of the airline’s mobile app so they can check in and download their electronic boarding pass about two days, or 49 hours before they are scheduled to fly out.

There are also self-service kiosks in Terminals 1 and 3, allowing flyers who have checked in online to print their boarding pass at the airport.

To encourage passengers to  arrive at the airport early, Etihad is offering those who check in at least four hours prior to departure an extra five kilos of checked baggage, 2,500 Etihad guest miles and vouchers that can be used for select Duty Free and food and beverage outlets.

Dubbed “moonlight check-in,” the service allows travellers flying anywhere outside the United States to check in four to eight hours before departure at special counters in Terminal 3, between 4am and 6am, and between 4pm and 6pm.

Dubai International airport had earlier cautioned passengers that terminals will be busy starting on Wednesday. Emirates is expecting more than 106,000 flyers during the weekend and Eid period alone.

Friday will see the heaviest passenger footfall, with more than 37,000 Emirates passengers scheduled to depart from Terminal 3.
