Dubai: Airlines will start moving operations back to Dubai International from Monday after temporarily shifting operations to Sharjah International and Al Maktoum International during the 80 day runway repair period.

flydubai, Air India, Jet Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Royal Brunei, PAL Express, and East Horizon are all confirmed to return all flights to Dubai International this week.

“The opening of the northern runway and ramp up to a full schedule, when combined with the upcoming Eid holidays, will result in a significant surge in passenger numbers from July 21,” said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, in a statement on Thursday.

Qatar Airways, Gulf Air and Jazeera Airways will move certain flights back to Dubai International. The three airlines will continue to operate select flights from Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central (DWC).

Emirates, which cut flights to 41 routes and grounded up to 22 aircraft each month, will also normalise operations this week.

Dubai International consecutively closed its two runways for 80 days from May 1 for scheduled refurbishment work. Capacity at what is one of the world’s busiest airports was cut by 26 per cent over the 80 days.
