Dubai: Strata Manufacturing will become the sole provider of aileron’s for the Airbus A330 and A340 in 2017 and not 2016 following a reduction in demand from the European plane maker, an executive said on Monday.

Strata, a Mubadala Development Company subsidiary, currently makes half of all ailerons used on those planes. Airbus was expected to stop manufacturing the aileron in 2016, making Strata the sole manufacturer, but Saif Al Dabashi, Senior Operations Manager at Strata, told Gulf News Airbus has asked for the “modification” because it no longer believes it will need as many ailerons in 2016 as it had previously anticipated. Al Dabashi was speaking at the Dubai International Project Management Forum.

An aileron is the hinged part on the wing that is used to control the direction of the aircraft.

Al Dabashi said Strata will continue to manufacture half of all A330 and A340 ailerons, which are made in Al Ain, and that no other changes had been made to the existing work packages agreement.

Mubadala is currently negotiating with Airbus to broaden the number and type of parts Strata builds as part of a separate 2013 agreement. On November 12, Airbus Middle East President Habib Fekih told Gulf News that Strata will be manufacturing A350 and more A380 parts under the new agreement.
