Dubai: Abu Dhabi Airports Chief Executive, Tony Douglas, is stepping down after two years in the role to take a position with the UK government, Abu Dhabi Airports announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Douglas’ final date at Abu Dhabi Airports, the government owned manager and operator or airports in the emirate, has not been announced. He is leaving Abu Dhabi Airports to take up a new role with the UK Government as Chief Executive of Defence Equipment and Support at UK’s Ministry of Defence, according to the statement.

Ali Majid Al Mansouri, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, thanked Douglas in Wednesday’s statement for his “outstanding service” and “hard work” as Chief Executive.

During Douglas’ tenure, Abu Dhabi International saw passenger growth rise to more than 20 million in 2014, with an annual growth rate of 20 per cent. Before joining Abu Dhabi Airports, Douglas was Chief Executive of Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), also a government owned entity.
