Dubai Blood Donation Centre, run by Dubai Health Authority (DHA), is putting the power to save lives in people’s palms by launching Dammi, an app that aims to simplify the process of finding a time and place to make a donation.

Dr Mai Raouf, Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Centre, said, “It will also allow blood donors to answer a donation eligibility questionnaire and read pre-donation educational material through their mobile phones before they come to the donation centre.”

Dr Raouf said the app’s launch is in line with DHA’s vision to provide services to customers at a click of a button and to support the authority’s vision of fulfilling a happy and healthy society.

“Through this app, donors can also receive invitations for activities related to blood donation through their smart device and get notifications for donation campaigns,” she said.

The application will allow public to register their details to be contacted during emergencies and disasters to donate blood. This will support the blood services and help develop a bigger database of donors to be able to cover hospitals’ needs. This is particularly important when the need arises for rare blood groups.
“The app will help avoid human errors and will add an extra layer to transfusion safety,” she said. It is available on both iPhones and Android devices.

Dammi will help streamline the blood donation process and provide a smart solution that allows blood donors to locate the nearest donation centre or mobile blood donation unit through their mobile phones.

Dubai Blood Donation Centre, the only supplier in the emirate, is implementing a smart integrated donation management system based on world-leading technology (Hemasoft) in line with the best international standard ISBT 128. It is responsible for collecting about half of the total blood collected in the country.
