Starting next week, the community in Dubai will have an opportunity to vote for the Dubai Health Authority’s Blood Donation app, which is one of the contenders for the prestigious Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Programme for Smart Government Award.

The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Programme for Smart Government (HbMPSG) Awards recognises and rewards the efforts of Dubai Government employees and entities participating in the Dubai Model Improvement Cycle.

The DHA’s  Blood Donation Centre recently put the power to save lives in the palm of the users’ hand by launching ‘Dami’ a blood donation app that aims to make it easier to find a time and place to make a blood donation.

Dr Mai Raouf, Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Center said  “The app allows blood donors to answer donation eligibility questionnaires and read pre-donation educational material through their mobile phones before they come to the donation centre.

Dr Raouf said that launching the app is in line with DHA’s vision to provide services to customers at a click of a button to support the authority’s vision of fulfilling a happy and healthy society.

“Through this app donors can also receive invitations for activities related to blood donation through their smart device and get notification for donation campaigns.”

The application will allow the public to register their details  to be contacted during emergencies and disasters to donate blood. This will support the blood services in having a wide database for blood donors to be able to cover the
hospital’s needs.

“The app will help avoid human errors and will add an extra layer to transfusion safety,” she said.

The app is available on both apple and android phones.
