The Dubai Diabetes Centre recently won two recognitions from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). We were recognised as a Centre of Excellence in Diabetes Care and as a Centre of Education.
This reinforces again the importance of multidisciplinary care and I would like to emphasise that you are in the driver’s seat when it comes to your health. So, if you have any health issue, it is you who has to firstly seek expert advice on time, follow the advice given and educate yourself to understand what this means in terms of the changes you need to make to your daily lifestyle, your habits and your daily routine.
A multidisciplinary team-based approach for caring and treating patients is vital and a diverse group of experts is needed particularly for a disease like diabetes, which can lead to several other health complications. However, patients need to understand that they are the most important part of the medical team.
I would also advice that caring for your health should begin today, not after an occasion such as your birthday or New Year’s, or any timeline people tend to give themselves to postpone taking care of their health.
