Dubai: Motorists driving into Abu Dhabi have been urged to drive with caution, as the Shaikh Zayed tunnel will be temporarily closed for four days.
On its Twitter page, Abu Dhabi Police announced that traffic will be diverted to the Qasr Al Bahr tunnel.
The tunnel closure will start from Wednesday January 10 to Saturday January 13, 2018, from midnight to 5.30am, as authorities carry out the necessary maintenance and upgrades.

On Friday January 12, the closure will continue until 11.30am.
“For their safety and to ensure smooth traffic flow, motorists are kindly requested to drive safely and use alternative routes,” said Abu Dhabi Police.
An accident on Shaikh Zayed Street caused further traffic delays in the capital, as heavy congestion remained in the direction to and from Shaikh Zayed Bridge.

In Dubai, two traffic accidents on Shaikh Zayed Road caused heavy tailbacks due to one incident after the Al Manara intersection, and the second after Oasis Mall.
The traffic accidents led to bumper-to-bumper traffic until Al Barsha, and caused heavy delays for motorists driving in the area.
Major traffic delays were also reported on Al Awir Road towards Ras Al Khor, along Rebat Street in the direction of Garhoud, and on the Dubai-Al Ain Road.
A third accident was reported on Shaikh Zayed Road near Zabeel Park, causing further delays near the area of Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout.

All the major roads from Sharjah into Dubai were also filled with major traffic congestion, as motorists made their way into work through Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road and Al Ittihad Road.
