Dubai: Motorists faced a number of delays on Monday due to a number of accidents on major highways in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Two accidents were reported near Ghantoot on the Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road, which stalled traffic heading in both directions.

Abu Dhabi Police warned motorists to drive with caution and to follow traffic rules in order to prevent further accidents from occurring.

In Dubai, motorists faced a backlog of traffic on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road after the Mirdif intersection, heading towards Sharjah.

Heavy delays were also reported on Umm Suqeim Street after an accident happened near Al Quoz.

Another accident affected traffic flow on the Dubai-Al Ain Road, near Dubai Silicone oasis, in the direction towards Dubai.

Motorists were also reminded about the recently amended traffic rules, and the fines associated with driving on the hard shoulder.

On its Twitter account, Abu Dhabi Police recently said that driving on the hard shoulder will bring a Dh1,000 fine, in addition to six black points. Drivers caught blocking emergency vehicles will also face a Dh1,000 fine, as well as four black points. In both instances, motorists will have their vehicles impounded for a period of 30 days.
