Abu Dhabi: Leaders of the UAE and Georgia held talks on Tuesday on ways to develop bilateral relations in the field of investment, economy and culture to achieve the interests of both countries and their peoples.

The talks took place when His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia.

Lieutenant-General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was present.

Both leaders spoke about recent developments in the region and around the world, and exchanged views on them.

They stressed that the international community must amplify its efforts to achieve peace in the region and around the world, and consolidate the concept of tolerance, dialogue and coexistence.

Shaikh Mohammad told Margvelashvili that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is keen on expanding its relations with Georgia in the fields of politics, economy, trade, culture and tourism in order to achieve the development aspirations of both nations.

The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince stressed that despite the tangible development in the UAE-Georgia relations during the past few years, particularly on the economic level, “the relations possess so many components that allow us to be more ambitious in the present and future”. He pointed out that the next few years will see a qualitative shift in these relations.

Margvelashvili emphasised the importance of friendly relations and cooperation between the UAE and Georgia, and hailed the UAE’s comprehensive development.

Also present during the meeting were Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Roland Beridze, Georgian Non-Resident Ambassador to the UAE, and a number of Emirati and Georgian officials.

UK defence minister

Later, Shaikh Mohammad received Gavin Williamson, UK Defence Secretary.

They spoke about bilateral relations and means of strengthening cooperation between the UAE and the UK. Shaikh Mohammad and Williamson exchanged views on regional developments and issues of mutual concern.

They reviewed avenues of cooperation between the UAE and UK in the areas of military and defence, and discussed ways to bolster them to achieve higher levels of coordination and cooperation.
