Ras Al Khaimah: Two people died and three others were injured in a two-car collision in Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Brigadier Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Hamidi, director-general of the General Directorate of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the operations room received a call around 3.20pm reporting the incident.

Police said one vehicle driven by a 66-year-old driver from Comoros Island took a U-turn and entered the road in the opposite direction without making sure it was clear of traffic. An oncoming car driven by a 21-year-old Emirati driver could not avoid colliding with the first vehicle.

As a result of the collision, the driver from Comoros Island and his son, aged 11, died on the spot while his two other children, aged 12 and 14, were seriously injured. The Emirati driver of the other car was injured as well.

The injured were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the hospital morgue in preparation to hand them over to their relatives for burial.

Brig Al Hamidi appealed to drivers to abide by traffic rules for their safety and to be extra alert when entering roadways.
