Ras Al Khaimah: A 21-year-old European tourist was rescued on Thursday and airlifted to Al Dhaid hospital after she fell down a mountain slope while trying to climb at Wadi Showka in Ras Al Khaimah.
The Air Ambulance Crews in the Air Wing Department at the General Directorate of Security Support at the Ministry of Interior, rescued the tourist after receving a report of a young woman falling down the slope.
Colonel Pilot Salem Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of the Air Wing Department, said that the operations room received a report at 5:30pm on Thursday to help airlift a tourist who had suffered fractures in her legs at Wadi Showka due to the difficult topography.
Immediately, a helicopter equipped with medical personnel took off on a rescue mission.
The hiker was administered first aid and transported to Al Dhaid hospital.
Al Suwaidi said that the tourist fell off a slope and was trapped in a spot that was difficult for an aircraft to land in and for vehicles to access.
For that reason, a specialised Air Rescue Team had to intervene using a crane to rescue the injured tourist.
Al Suwaidi urged adventurers to take all precautions, especially when climbing, which requires special equipment and protective clothing.
The official said such dangerous activities need to be done under the supervision of qualified trainers who are able to deal with any emergency.
