Ras Al Khaimah: Forty-seven national couples from across the UAE tied the knot on Wednesday in a major celebration held in Ras Al Khaimah in the emirate's ninth mass wedding.

The mass wedding was attended by Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Mariam Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs, said the mass weddings are supported by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

She said mass weddings have played a central role in creating a domestic balance in national families.

The number of nationals interested in getting married in mass weddings has been rising as it spares them the debts they incur in case of individual weddings, she said.

One of the men who tied the knot, Mohammad Al Yamahi, thanked Shaikh Khalifa, who ordered that each groom will be given an assistance of Dh 70,000.
