Dubai Gulf News are the generous sponsors of Saturday's meeting at Meydan, the penultimate fixture of the Dubai World Cup Carnival at the UAE's flagship racecourse with only Dubai World Cup night a fortnight later remaining.

The card consists of a maiden and five ultra competitive handicaps of which the final two are the best. The concluding 1600m Gulf News Handicap looks wide open with Capital Attraction, trained near Abu Dhabi by Ernst Oertel, seeking his third win of the season (one was a dead-heat).

Oertel said: "He certainly likes the Tapeta and has done well for us at Meydan this season. Hopefully he can run well."

Silvestre De Sousa takes the ride on the 5yo who shares top-weight with four rivals, including Famous Warrior who is well drawn for a horse who likes to race prominently and he should go well under Pat Dobbs.

He is trained by Doug Watson, as is Steed who will be having his third UAE start and first on Tapeta. Watson said: "Famous Warrior has had some bad draws at the Carnival so it is nice to see him in five. Steed is an interesting new horse who will hopefully like the surface."

Champion Trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe saddles Rutland Boy who has won his last two starts well and looks sure to run another big race under Jamie Spencer.

The preceding 2200m GNB Handicap looks to revolve around Godolphin's Tahaamah who won over course and distance on his most recent start and looks likely to be hard to beat under Frankie Dettori.

Watson, with Dr Faustus and Jutland, along with Satish Seemar appear to provide the main dangers. Seemar saddles three with jockey bookings suggesting Radegund Abbey and Achill Bay are his main hopes.

The action moves to Abu Dhabi for the final time this season on Sunday for arguably their biggest meeting of the season with both the Group 1 Emirates Championship for Purebred Arabians and Group 3 Abu Dhabi Championships for Thoroughbreds on the seven race card.

Both 2011 big race winners are back to defend their crowns with the Gill Duffield-trained Periander set to face 10 rivals in the Emirates Championship, including last year's second and fourth, Raked and Rabah De Carrere.

All three should run well again with the Majed Al Jahouri trio of Rami, Jarnin and Musharab all respected but Versac PY could be the one to beat despite having a lot to find according to ratings.

Trained by Erwan Charpy, he will be the second last ever ride at Abu Dhabi for Richard Hills who has combined with Charpy to win this race twice in the last five years.

Topclas won the Abu Dhabi Championship last year for Mubarak bin Shafya and Pat Cosgrave but this year's renewal looks a stronger one. Al Shemali, winner of the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free in 2010 for Champion Trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe looks a big danger, along with Anaerobio, trained by South African Mike De Kock who won this race in 2009 with Mr Brock.
