Dubai: Al Wasl Monday confirmed the indefinite suspension of Majid Nasser after the goalkeeper had slapped Al Ahli coach Quique Sanchez Flores following the semi-final of the etisalat Cup late on Sunday.

Following a meeting held yesterday morning, the media department of Al Wasl Football Company confirmed the suspension of Nasser as announced by Swaidan Al Naboodah, Vice Chairman of the club, on his Twitter account, late on Sunday.

"The Al Wasl Football Company has suspended Majid Nasser indefinitely following his violent act against Al Ahli coach Quique Sanchez Flores," said a statement from the club.

The release further stated that "the board members will meet to review all the evidence related to the incident and to listen to what the player has to say regarding his actions before determining the punishment that will be issued against him [Nasser] in accordance with the terms of the penalty guidelines of Al Wasl Football Company".

The note further reiterated that Al Wasl upholds the tenets of the sport. "Al Wasl emphasizes its absolute rejection of any unsportsmanlike act or behaviour by any player or member of Al Wasl. This type of behaviour not only damages the reputation of the individual but is also detrimental to the image of the club as a whole, and will not be tolerated," it said. "Players are considered a reflection of the club and are therefore expected to be role models of Al Wasl's values and ethics," it added.
