Dubai: A competition to design a landmark structure in Zabeel Park has been launched, the winning structure will house facilities including a cafe and library.

"The creation of a tall emblem structure will have the aim of being a landmark building symbolising the new face of Dubai, as well as promoting tourism, recreational, and cultural activities," Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director-General of Dubai Municipality, told a press conference on Tuesday. To put the project into action Dubai will play host to the 11th Architecture Award, established by ThyssenKrupp Elevator.

The award is being organised under the auspices of the International Union of Architects," said Lootah.

The winner of the award will be given Dh367,000 ($100,000) prize money. The award winners will be announced in 2009.
