Dubai: There is no let-up in activity in the UAE's digital space. A new portal — Crokodeals.com — went live on February 28 offering anything from cars to cameras. The portal generates its funds from a paid-auction system operated through daily deals.

The promoters had, last April, released a similar venture in the form of clicoo.ma in Morocco. But for its UAE launch, the decision was made to come in with a new branding.

"As ‘.ma' is the national brand [for Morocco], we decided to go for ‘.com'," said Julien Patera, one of the four founders.

As to the change in name from Clicoo, "There are a number of reasons we completely overhauled the brand name — some innovations in the concept, taking in new partners, growth of the business itself and repositioning," Patera added.

"Customers will discover what we call entertainment shopping," he said.

"They will play, have fun and as a reward will benefit from great prices on brand new products. Crokodeals.com doesn't offer previous collection items but the latest products."

Initially, the plan is to concentrate on the UAE marketplace and then widen the scope to include other Gulf markets.
