Dubai: Thirty-eight supporters of Sharjah football club ran a collective 234 laps around the stadium's 400km running track last Saturday morning covering a distance of 93.6km in just two hours and raising Dh1,450 for Sharjah City for Humanitarian Resources (SCHR).

Participants from all nationalities, from ten months old to 65 years of age, along with players all donated at least Dh10 per lap for the charity, while educating the youth on healthy eating and active lifestyles.

SCHR specialises in inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities through education, rehabilitation and job placement in order to immerse independent, self-reliant individuals into society.

Tim March, general coordinator at Sharjah FC, said: "Sharjah Club believes that football's great strength can be found in the way that it engages, unites, motivates, connects and entertains millions of people around the globe irrespective of culture, creed or nationality.

"We feel that few subjects generate the passion and emotion of football and it is, therefore, unsurprising that the global game has stepped up to the mark in terms of growing a number of humanitarian projects. We believe that is a key part of our role as a professional sporting entity to make a positive contribution to the community within which we operate."

Sharjah club's first of its kind collaboration with SCHR started in December 2011 and entails LED displays on pitch side billboards promoting the charity's work.
