Dubai: Forty-four pilots from as far as Norway, Italy, the UK, Lebanon and Bangladesh joined local and Middle East-based pilots for the fourth heat of the WPPA GCC Class III 6-litre Powerboat Championship to compete in the Westin Mina Seyahi Grand Prix off the waters of the Dubai International Marine Club at Mina Seyahi.

The event attracted 23 teams this year with the last round of the Championship to be held on Friday being considered as the World Championship.

First place

Twenty-two multi colou-red Class 3-6 litre powered engine boats took to the water for the penultimate round of the World Championship.

A rather chaotic start saw boats going in all directions and thus missing the mark buoys causing them to lose one lap each.

With a simplified race course spread over a start lap and nine race laps totalling 43.74 NM, the boats took off to a roaring start, hurtling their way around the first turn buoy at the Palm Island's logo island.

In the final tally of the results Victory 43 (Marwan Al Ayali and Mohammad Al Muhairi) took first place followed by Kingfisher (Ian Black and Derek Basham) in second.
