Dubai: Roger Federer regained his Dubai title in 2007, although he was stretched to three sets by Kristian Pless in the first round and Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
His opponent in the final was Mikhail Youzhny, who beat defending champion and second seed Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals in controversial circumstances. The Spaniard disputed a call on set point in the opening set, but the Hawkeye line-calling system saw the ball in.
Nadal went on to lose the last-eight match 7-6, 6-3 and Youzhny went on to beat Robin Soderling in the semis before conceding the final 6-4, 6-3.
The men's doubles was claimed by Fabrice Santoro and Nenad Zimonjic after a tense 7-5, 6-7, 10-7 battle with Mahesh Bhupathi and Radek Stepanek.
Justine Henin won her fourth Dubai ladies' title in five years, although she came close to defeat in her opening match against 16-year-old qualifier Tamira Paszek. The Austrian won the first set and held a break point at 6-5 in the second to serve out the match.
Struggling win
Henin survived to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 and she also struggled against Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semi-finals before winning 1-6, 6-4, 6-0. Her opponent in the final was Amelie Mauresmo, who advanced after Jelena Jankovic injured her ankle shortly after Mauresmo had won the first set of their semi-final 6-2.
The doubles was won by Cara Black and Liezel Huber, who defeated Kuznetsova and Alicia Molik 7-6, 6-4.
