Abu Dhabi: The heat is on for football lovers with all eyes focused on Zayed Sports City as the President's Cup final kicks off today.

The police have warned football enthusiasts to refrain from bringing any solid tools, catapults, sticks, flammable materials, drugs or chemicals into the stadium, citing safety reasons.

Apart from newspapers, fireworks, laser pens, weapons and glass materials and animals are forbidden from the match venue.

Police have advised that adherence to the safety regulations will promise easy entry to the stadium.

Colonel Ahmad Mohammad, head of the security committee for the match, said the success of the security measures is one of the main pillars to ensure the success of the game. He said all necessary security measures have been completed to ensure the safety and security of all concerned.

Intensified traffic patrols has been arranged to protect the best interests of the public, he added.

The police will follow strict procedures to prevent any forbidden items being taken into the stadium.

Referring to the common practice of fans of the winning team taking to the streets for celebration, Major Nasser Al Ka'abi, Director of the Department of Information and Public Relations, said it was important to follow traffic rules and regulations at all times. Leaflets would be distributed to ensure increased awareness on this front, he said.

"Fans should celebrate in a civilised manner while adhering to traffic laws," Al Ka'abi added.
