Dubai: Johnny Herbert threw the Speedcar Series wide open even as Frenchman Romain Grosjean powered his way to a fourth win in the GP2 Asia Series at the Dubai Autodrome on Friday.
Herbert's win makes him one of four contenders for the overall Speedcar Series title that will be decided after today's final sprint race.
German Uwe Alzen hoisted himself to the top with a fourth-place finish to take his tally to 42 points. But breathing down his neck are Jean Alesi and Dubai-based David Terrien racing for UP Team.
If Herbert had his hands on the action in the big race, it was young Frenchman Grosjean riding a lucky moment to take the top honours in the GP2 Asia race.
In the 34-lap race, it was Brazilian sensation Bruno Senna of the iSport International Team calling the shots as he led from the start despite beginning second on the grid.
But a punctured tyre in the 30th lap forced the Brazilian - nephew of the late legend Ayrton Senna - to go for a second pit-stop that ultimately handed over the lead to Grosjean.
"Any driver who is entering a race wants to win. We want to win and keep getting the points here. I don't see any luck about that," Grosjean said.
Going all out
Though the Frenchman has already won the title in the last race in Bahrain last week, he has no intentions of slowing down.
"I hope for a finish like the one we had during the first round held here earlier this year," Grosjean stated.
However, much of the excitement today will lie in the fight brewing up for the Speedcar Series. Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mansour Al Thani gave away the trophies with Saeed Khalfan and Simon Azzam.
