Dubai: It was a day of records at the Standarad Chartered Dubai Marathon yesterday and Ahmad Al Kamali, the General Co-ordinator of the event and member of the International Association of Athletics Federation council, was ecstatic with the outcome.

"We are delighted with the results because four athletes have finished under 2:05 and three women under 2:20. The men and women broke the course records too. This timing is a threat to all marathons around the world. This is just a beginning," said Kamali, who is hopeful that one day the Dubai Marathon will erase the world record as well..

Abdul Rahman Al Owais, the UAE Minister of Health and Culture, Youth and Community Development, who gave away the prizes, said: "Dubai Marathon is a family event for the people here. This marathon, which started with just 600 runners, today has grown into a great event with record participation."
