Chalet Girl or J. Edgar – that’s the Ed Westwick-based First World Problem (are you following @FiWo Problems on Twitter? You should) I’m experiencing this week. On the one hand, who’d have thought Chuck Bass would pop up in a Clint Eastwood helmer, alongside Leonardo? On the other hand, Chalet Girl looks like I can switch my brain off for the duration. Naturally there will be some DSF shopping to be done at Dubai Mall, which will require a looong sit down at Ping Pong afterwards – I love their dim sum and banana cake. My in-laws, Billy and Olive will be here from the 16th, so we’ll be hitting up the Montgomerie for dinner on the terrace, and then I’m all about planning a trip to Seoul to see my bestie, Dominic, who’s teaching over there. Anyone been? All tweeted travel tips welcome at @sceneUAE.

I have a new obsession: Yum Cha Fridays at Hukama (Dh145) at The Address Downtown. I went last week, and guess what? I’m booked in for this weekend too! The terrace is just sunny enough, the dim sum dough truly delectable and the range of flavours on offer amazing – the turnip cake was a highlight, who knew turnip could be earth-shattering? After this I’ll just have to roll home and regroup before Nasimi’s Full Moon Party – it’s Friday the 13th so I’m anticipating that things may get freaky. Then, on Saturday, I’m hitting up Global Village – I love the shopping in the India Pavilion, but I must admit I venture out to Dubailand mainly to stock up my pantry: the Palestine area has a stall that sells the best olive oil on offer in the city, as well as labneh so good I could just eat it straight from the tub – and the Thai pavilion is home to delicious fresh fruits.

Socialising duties are totally off this week – apart from being flat broke after Christmas, I am currently the world’s most successful snot-producing machine, and wouldn’t dream of inflicting my nose blowing on the rest of the city (which Team Scene will vouch for after this week’s five-day trumpeting fest.) So, it’s a weekend chez Wildman pour moi, and I’m planning to make it a productive few days. First up, it’s a New Year closet clearout, where I shall be streamlining my overflowing rails and rediscovering the stuff that I’d boxed away in the summer, followed by an online shopping spree to fill the recently made holes in the wardrobe (courtesy of Mastercard, natch.) And then, seeing as this weekend is all about me, I’ll be watching as many Ryan Gosling films as possible. Forget Panadol Cold & Flu, an enormous overdose of Gosling is guaranteed to make me feel much better.

I am seriously worried about my finances this month – we’re only seven days into DSF and I have already cleaned up in sales across the city. So, I might not be able to afford fancy meals this week but I have got a lovely new wardrobe to show for it! Thanks to my daytime wallet-busting antics, I’ll be enjoying a few low-budget evenings, so this weekend I have a lovely dinner party with friends planned on Friday (I’m on providing the starters duty), then on Saturday I’ll be having a total DVD fest and am sure there are a few Gosling films for me to catch up on. After the popcorn and ice cream I have the perfect excuse hit the treadmill in my new SheMoves Danskin SlimSculpt workout gear, it’s a favourite of Hilary Duff’s don’t you know!
