The Dubai Municipality has set up a committee to look into replacing or rebuilding Naif Souq.
The move came after the fire that broke out on Wednesday morning, which destroyed 184 shops containing clothes and textiles.
The committee will visit the site and the suggested venues for a new temporary market, which will have all the required facilities and be ready to house all the affected shops within two months.
Eng Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of the municipality, instructed that an urgent plan should be made to provide temporary shelter for the damaged shops, and stressed the need to swiftly complete a new market.
He urged the technical teams to view the suggested temporary site to move the shops and to begin planning of the new Naif Souq, which will have a local style, comprise two air-conditioned floors, and will be completed in eight months. A team from the municipality's Markets Department yesterday visited the site of the burnt Naif Souq.
