Abu Dhabi: The Health Authority Abu Dhabi (Haad) has allocated Dh5.8 million to a new research project into the causes of deaths in car accidents, to be done in collaboration with the UAE University.

The project aims to reduce deaths, injuries and disabilities in traffic accidents, and related health care costs.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Dr Abdullah Al Khanbashi, Vice Chancellor, UAE University, and Ali Al Qamzi, Head of Finance of Haad, on March 3.

A new database will be set up, consisting of a fixed representative sample of serious accidents.

These incidents will be thoroughly investigated in order to understand the causes for injuries and deaths. The information can then be used to prevent future accidents.
