Dubai: AC Milan will be reintroduced to an old friend here this week after Carlo Ancelotti was unveiled as the new manager of Paris St Germain yesterday.

Ancelotti is a genuine Rossoneri legend after trophy-laden spells with the San Siro club both as a player and as manager and, ironically, his first assignment as PSG boss will be to play a friendly against Milan at Al Ahli's Rashed Stadium on Wednesday.

And the Paris club's owners are also confident they will sign David Beckham in time for the game against his former employers.

The Italian outfit are spending a few days here for warm weather training ahead of the match, which takes place during the winter breaks of the Italian Serie A and French Ligue 1.

The Milan squad — including the likes of Robinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Pato and Clarence Seedorf — landed at Dubai International Airport late on Thursday night.

They spent yesterday training in the city, splitting their time between the Al Ahli Stadium and the public Al Mamzar Beach, where the players enjoyed working in the sand while beachgoers relaxed around them.

Ancelotti, meanwhile, was preparing to face the media in Paris, where his new bosses — Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) — revealed he was the man to match their lofty ambitions, with previous incumbent Antoine Kombouare moving aside earlier in the day.

The 52-year-old — back in management for the first time since being sacked by Chelsea in May — won two Scudettos and two European Cups with Milan as a player, before returning as manager in 2001 and leading the club to another Scudetto and two more Champions League titles.

The former Italy international is one of only six men to have won the European Cup as player and manager.

Ancelotti, who will be assisted by ex-France international and Chelsea star Claude Makelele, takes over a club at the top of the league.

He said on his appointment yesterday: "I think I can do good work here. We have all the conditions to succeed. I am delighted and very enthusiastic about this project."

The new manager joins a club with another former Milan star in their ranks as Brazilian Leonardo is their sporting director. And the owners have also declared their interest in yet another link with the Italian giants — English superstar Beckham.
