Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the Meydan desert theatre on Thursday to mark the Dubai World Cup horse race, to be held on Saturday at the Dubai Horserace Track in Nad Al Sheba.

Over 6000 people from around the world attended the launching of the giant outdoor grandstand and watched the local and global folklore and musical shows, which demonstrated the common human aspect of people of the world.

"Welcome to the UAE, the land of tolerance and the meeting point of civilisations," was the message sent through the shows to the entire world and its people.

Present at the ceremony were Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Also present were Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group, Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, Wife of Shaikh Mohammad, and Prince Khalid Bin Abdullah Al Saud.

Following the folklore shows, Shaikh Mohammad and the guests watched a presentation on the Meydan project, which will be one of the most distinguished sports venues in the world and includes horserace tracks, residential and recreational cities, hotels, clubs, shopping centres and prestigious tourism facilities.
