Islamabad: Cricketer-turned -politician Imran Khan said his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), would warmly welcome former foreign minister Shah Mahmoud Quraishi into its fold.

"He is an honest politician and we look forward to his joining hands with us," Khan told reporters.

Quraishi recently quit the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and gave up his seat in the National Assembly.

A day after his resignation, Quraishi criticised President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in Multan, his hometown in central Punjab province.

"Both are incapable of tackling and solving the problems facing the country," the former foreign minister said.

Quraishi is expected to announce his next move in a public meeting on November 27.

He said he has "excellent relations" with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, president of the main opposition, Pakistan Muslim League-N.

Quraishi said he is set to go to Dubai to speak at a think tank forum.

He said he is willing to meet Sharif after he returns from Dubai — if the latter asks him to.

Political wilderness

Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan predicted that Quraishi's move to bolt out of PPP will send him to "political wilderness".

She tagged the former foreign minister as a political nomad who has written his "political obituary" by resigning from the PPP and the assembly.
