No sooner have the stars stepped off the red carpet in Abu Dhabi than the focus of the film world shifts immediately to Qatar.

Now in its third year, the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) is fast becoming a not-to-miss date on the calendar for film-goers and industry buffs alike.

With red carpet action, world and regional premieres, extensive conversation, master class and workshop program, not forgetting films for all the family, it's easy to see why.

This year star spotters should be on the lookout for Antonio Banderas, arriving to represent two films, Black Gold as well as his Shrek spin-off Cat in Boots. Michelle Yeoh, Lebanese actress/director Nadine Labaki (Caramel) and David Thewlis will also walk the carpet during the week.

Legendary film composer James Horner, best known for music from films including Titanic and Avatar, world-renowned director of more than 100 films Luc Besson, In The Mood for Love cinematographer Christopher Doyle and award-winning British-Indian film maker Asif Kapadia (the man behind F1 documentary Senna) have all been drafted in.

The main focus at DTFF, aside from the film screenings, is to nurture talent using the education and expertise of the best in the business, in a bid to grow the local film industry.

Working hand-in-hand with the Doha Film Institute, even the jury members are selected with teaching in mind.

Led by pioneering and award-winning British film maker, Nick Broomfield, this year's panel also includes Moneyball and Forrest Gump actress Robin Wright, award-winning Lebanese actress Carmen Lebbos, Moroccan film maker Hakim Belabbes, Istanbul Film Festival director Azize Tan and Acclaimed Syrian director Mohammed Malas.

The world premiere of Jean-Jacques Annaud's Black Gold, starring Antonio Banderas, will open the festival Tuesday night, which runs until October 29 at purpose-built film village at Katara, Doha.
