Dubai: The death of a man who fell from the fourth floor of a residential building on Wednesday is being investigated by police.

The man who was hanging on to the balcony was shouting for help before he plunged to his death, according to eye witnesses.

The security guard of the building in Deira said he heard the man's cries for help before he fell, but the man had already fallen, and was still alive by the time he reached him. The security guard then called the ambulance immediately.

According to police, before he died, the man told paramedics and the guard the name of his European house-mate as the person who pushed him.

The 24-year-old suspect said he was in the bathroom when he heard the screams, but when he headed to the kitchen, where the balcony was, the door was locked. He said he heard a thud and went downstairs and found the victim. He pointed out that the police found the kitchen door shut, while all the items on the balcony were in order, and there was no mess.

The suspect, who was in the UAE on a visit visa, confessed to police that he was having a homosexual relationship with the victim, and was charged with having an illicit homosexual relationship. The suspicion of a murder is still being investigated, pending reports from Dubai Police's General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology.

The report should show if the incident was a crime.

Police told Gulf News that the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
