London: Chilling thoughts of the fractured skull he suffered five years ago came back when Petr Cech collided with Fulham striker Orlando Sa last Wednesday.

The Chelsea goalkeeper said the challenge, two minutes before half-time in his side's Carling Cup third round win, felt like a boxer had hit him.

Cech, who broke his skull in October 2006 after colliding with Reading's Stephen Hunt, managed to see out the first half but was unable to stand up once he sat down in the dressing room.

Cech said: "I had a concussion. When I came inside the dressing room I couldn't see properly and I didn't have awareness of space.

"There was no way I could continue, although I had played for the last two minutes of the half.

"I thought I would be all right but as soon as I got into the dressing room it was clear my head wasn't working the way it should. So we decided not to play because it would have been really stupid to carry on."
