Abu Dhabi: Johns Hopkins Medicine International will manage Al Rahba Hospital following an agreement with the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) on Wednesday.

Johns Hopkins has been managing Tawam Hospital in Al Ain since March 2006. Dr Ahmad Mubarak Al Mazroui, SEHA chairman signed the agreement with Edward Miller, Dean of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, in a conference yesterday.

He told Gulf News that plans include another cancer hospital similar to Tawam Hospital.

SEHA is an independent, public stock company launched in December 2007 to manage and develop activities in public hospitals and clinics in Abu Dhabi.

It manages eight hospital systems totalling 14 facilities, 2,472 licensed beds, more than 55 primary health Clinics and 14,350 employees.

"This is a good day for all the good people of Abu Dhabi. John Hopkins is again number one in the US and through an affiliation agreement is also bringing healthcare excellence to Tawam Hospital.

"Al Rahba has already achieved Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) as has Tawam. We are pleased to have this agreement regarding Al Rahba and add the name and prestige of Johns Hopkins to yet another of our facilities," said Al Mazroui.
