Spot the difference: 2011 and 2012 Civics are hard to tell apart. Check the wheels to make sure they're the new 16in design. Image Credit: Supplied picture

We got a great response from our four cheap cars feature last week, which means not everyone cares about 1,000bhp+ hypercars driven in anger. Some people need proper car advice, and you lot will be pleased to know that the new 2012 Honda Civic has finally made its debut in the Middle East.

Forgive Honda for taking its time – as you know the company faced immense challenges in its production capabilities due to the tsunami disasters in March, but all the factory robots are now raring to get at the ninth generation Civic.

We’ll leave the subjectivity aside, only saying one thing about the looks; it doesn’t offend.

In more detail, the A-pillars have been moved forward and C-pillars backward to create a free-flowing shape and more interior volume. Passengers now have more shoulder room and front and rear hip room.

The dash follows the old two-tiered design, which still looks futuristic five years after we first saw it, but this time it includes a new Intelligent Multi-Information Display with information on the audio system, trip computer, fuel economy, etc.

The new Honda Civic also gets an economical mode to help improve fuel efficiency, a rear view camera, Bluetooth, and slightly nicer 16in wheels.

You also get power steering, typical MacPherson struts up front while a multi-link double wishbone set-up brings up the rear.

Powering it along is a four-pot 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine producing 139bhp at 6,500rpm and driving the fronts through a five-speed automatic transmission.

Take your pick from eight colours: two shades of white, two silvers, black, blue, red, and something called Urban Titanium Metallic.
