Riyadh: A Saudi man was beheaded by Saudi authorities on Tuesday after being convicted of killing a fellow citizen over a dispute, the Interior Ministry said.
In a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency, the ministry said Bandar bin Shabab Al Rashidi shot and killed Majed Bin Aqil Al Enzy. The nature of the dispute is not known.
The execution took place in the kingdom's eastern region, the statement said.
Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery can be executed.
According to an Associated Press count Tuesday's execution brings the number of people beheaded this year to 23. Saudi Arabia beheaded 137 people last year, up sharply from the 38 executed in 2006.
